Monty’s Good Burger, a Los Angeles plant-based fast food hamburger spot, opened August 11 in Koreatown serving artisanal burgers made from locally sourced ingredients, housemade sauces, and the plant-based Impossible™ patty. Choose a single or double from their 100% plant-based menu and pair it with French fries, tater tots, five sauces and four flavors of dairy-free milkshakes.
6th & La Brea

Artisanal Brewers Collective (ABC) brought 6th & La Brea, its 11th LA restaurant, providing a contemporary brewery & restaurant experience with forward-thinking menu offerings curated by Chef Jihee Kim, to Angelenos. With a menu that includes both non-vegan and vegan options featured dishes like the Betel Leaf Rolls, Sticky Rice Cakes and Korean Fried Chicken can be paired with house brews crafted by award-winning brewer, Noah Regnery, and California-driven cocktails, spirits, and wines.

Along the Cahuenga Corridor, Kebbros, a craft casual doner concept, hit the burgeoning Hollywood food scene on August 1. The brainchild of brothers and Co-Owners Romeo and Sergio Syfrig, along with Sergio’s wife, Ana Syfrig, they serve a highly customizable menu with delicious wraps, salads and bowls using shawarma-style proteins whilst serving the best of locally sourced & certified organic ingredients. Menu highlights at the certified Green Restaurant Association member establishment include: Hummus Sampler, Housemade Pomme Frittes, Kebbros Gravy Fries and their Flatbread Wrap.

The modern Indian restaurant opened March 2018 in the heart of Santa Monica inviting guests to taste chef Ali Mookhi’s take on innovate Indian street food meets haute cuisine in an ultra-chic setting. Restaurateur Michael Cardenas opened Mister O’s on September 4 with chef Mario Alberto and Napa mixologist Rafael Barba. The mid-century inspired lounge dining room features modern Angeleno cuisine with seasonal menu highlights like the Fierce Avocado or the Pork Can Can, which can be paired with the Mister Old Fashioned featuring candy cap mushrooms, Scorpion Bowl or a full bar with more than 50 whiskeys from three continents

Opened July 19, Okiboru in Chinatown is the first ramen shop in the U.S. to use handmade noodles for ramen. Owner Hyun “Sean” Park wanted to share tsukemen noodles, which are thicker and served on the side, garnering the name ‘dipping ramen.. They make their noodles on-site, every day from scratch which can be dipped in a ramen broth which is a chicken-pork blend or they also serve a vegan tsukemen made from puréed mushrooms and other vegetables. Toppings range from chasu pork ribs, a simple soft-boiled egg, nori, chashu, menma and tamago.

Opened in June by chef Daniel Snukal and managing partner Mark Mittleman, Punta Cabras is a Baja-inspired seafood restaurant and taqueria in Santa Monica, withtwo distinct spaces under one roof. The space includes a colorful dining room and a counter-service taqueria, serving its renowned seafood tacos, tostadas, cocteles, and unique aguas frescas all day. Vibrant plates in the dining room include ribeye truffle costeras tacos, grilled octopus pig’s head and don’t skip the house guacamole.

New to trendy Abbot Kinney in Venice is Humphry Slocombe, which opened August 15. Founders Jake Godby and Sean Vahey welcome those with a sweet tooth to their bizarre, delicious, frozen universe, where unusual flavors like: OCHO PB&J, Strawberry Capn Crunch, Secret Breakfast (bourbon and cornflakes) and Yuzu Cream can be had.

Located across Park La Brea, The Thai Thing opened its doors June 25 serving authentic Thai food focusing on healthy authentic fresh Thai dishes. In the casual and cozy setting with an outdoor patio on bustling 3rd Street, The Thai Thing is open for brunch and dinner inviting guests to choose either ‘up to us’ where the chef prepares for diners or ‘up to you’ where diners can customize their own dish.

Situated next door to APL Restaurant, APL Hole in the Wall opened August 22 by BBQ legend and meat master, Chef Adam Perry Lang. The takeout window is operating during the daytime hours and serves just four items to start including a double beef chili dog, dry-aged chili dog, the Hot Shot sandwich, and their Serious Barbecue Sandwich ($50), only available in limited quantities daily. Delivery will commence later this fall.
Baby J’s Burgers

From Jason Harley of Birdies in DTLA, Baby J’s Burgers opened in August serving classic burgers made from 100% domestic farm raised beef, shakes and desserts. Alongsidea wall art mural by East LA artist Sandoner, try one of his off the menu items, a vegan burger Harley created for Pam Anderson, or their CBD infused matcha green tea ice cream shake.

Opened in DTLA in August, sixth+mill pizzeria and bar is Factory Place Hospitality Group’s third restaurant, led by Culinary Director Angelo Auriana and Restaurateur Matteo Ferdinandi. The neighborhood pizzeria offers Southern Italian comfort food including Neapolitan-style pizzas, durum wheat pastas, shareable plates, fritters and salads. Try pizzas cooked in a Mario Acunto Neapolitan-style wood-fired oven encased with refractory bricks or the popular dishes including the Sorrentina, Panzerotti, or Polpette.

Chef/Owner Teresa Montaño, brings progressive Spanish flavors to Otoño, which opened August 7, in LA’s bustling Highland Park neighborhood. With dishes rooted in the culture of Spain while paying homage to the melting pot of Los Angeles’ culinary and demographic mix, Montaño crafts a menu of tapas, paella, and raciones. Sit at their 20-seat bar and sip on gin-forward cocktails alongside a selection of Spanish beers and spirits or in their dining room while eating environmentally conscious food focused on sustainable seafood and Los Angeles’ locally sourced ingredients. Severance, a new immersive beverage-driven experience opened on Melrose Ave. September 4 by bar industry vet Evan Charest. With bottles of champagne sabered upon request, DIY tableside punches, a Wine Cart that features different soil / terroir samples from various regions and more, Severance’s goal is to enlighten guests on wines, sherries, champagnes and beers in an interactive, experience driven atmosphere in a warm, comfortable setting. Chat with your server or bartender, who are certified sommeliers, and enjoy a cheese-lovers menu with fondue and more.

On August 17, Karayama opened in Little Tokyo bringing a taste of Japan and kara-age, Japanese-style fried chicken, to LA. What started as a small 100sf takeout-only storefront in Japan, Karayama’s first location in the US is perfect for lunchtime take-out or a casual sit-down meal where guests can choose from the Kara-Tam Don bowl, Karayama set, Goku Dare chicken sandwich and more. Taste their proprietary marinating technique that makes the signature kara-age so flavorful, so that guests don’t even need sauce to accompany.

8500 W Sunset Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90069
LA restaurateur Bill Chait partnered with operator and managing partner, Jordan Ogron, and acclaimed chefs Raphael Francois and Sally Camacho Mueller, to open Tesse on the Sunset Strip. Tesse opened mid-June and is a play on délicatesse, which is the name given for charcuterie in France. The menu features Francois’ contemporary yet casual food with European roots along with delectable selections from pastry chef Camacho Mueller.

The Gables is an all-day counter service neighborhood restaurant which opened in Santa Monica on August 22. Restaurateur Kevin Lazan brought chef Vicki Fan Matsusaka to serve homestyle California cuisine, comprised of small plates, and elevated homestyle American classics with an emphasis on ingredients sourced at the local Santa Monica’s Farmer’s Market. Their opening menu is split with a Morning, Midday and Evening section along with a selection of wines and craft beers.

Located at the SLS Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Beverly Hills, Somni offers a tasting only menu and debuted in March 2018 within The Bazaar by José Andrés. Meaning “dream” in Catalan, Somni is an evolution of fine dining and invites guests on a multi-sensory culinary experience centered around a bespoke exhibition kitchen. At the 10-seat counter, guests become part of the constantly evolving more than twenty course dining experience.

Chefs Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis of Bestia opened Bavel a Middle Eastern restaurant on April 20. Showcasing their lineage with family roots in Israel, Morocco, Turkey, and Egypt, Menashe and Gergis present dishes that are meant to be shared and bring a new perspective on the cuisine with a touch of modernity. Stemming from the story of Babel, from the Old Testament, the restaurant is inspired from a time when everything was one and there was no designation.
