As even a cursory search reveals, plenty of places across the country offer tons of opportunities to relax and unwind. New York City

It likely seems like a no brainer, but New York City is obviously chock full of fun, free things to do. Take a leisurely walk across the High Line, an old railroad track covered in greenery, benches and breathtaking views of the city. Roam through Central Park as well and keep an eye out for different street fairs, especially during the summer.

Las Vegas, Nevada

For a fun-filled, affordable weekend in Las Vegas, all you have to do is visit one of its many hotels. The Bellagio has a gorgeous fountain and exterior. If that’s not your scene, head over to the Red Spring Boardwalk and bask in the great outdoors. There’s always people watching on the Las Vegas strip.   

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Beaches, beaches and more beaches: You’ll find them at the best cities to visit for free and fun weekend activities. However, sun and sand aren’tt all there is to enjoy in Myrtle Beach, SC. Visit the boardwalk for a fun night out or check out the Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens.

Miami, Florida

Miami might conjure up images of neon-drenched nightclubs and pounding dance music. But you can also enjoy taking your trip at a slower, more relaxed speed. Obviously visiting the beach is a must while you’re here. Don’t forget to hit up the Wynwood arts district or head to Little Havana to unwind, however.

San Francisco, California

In San Francisco, Golden Gate Park and Fisherman’s Wharf are a must-see. For a taste of the various cultures that make up the city, head over to Chinatown, or check out North Beach. You can even hit up some free museums, such as the San Francisco Cable Car Museum

Washington, DC

Three words: The National Mall. You can kill several hours wandering around it. Monuments like the Lincoln Memorial and the World War II Memorial are also free to visit. Or, visit one of the city’s several free museums, like the National Air and Space Museum, or the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Chicago, Illinois

In Chicago, hit Navy Pier for free fireworks and music, or check out Millennium Park which boasts tons of public artwork. While you’re there, make sure you snap a photo with the iconic “Bean” (Cloud Gate) sculpture.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When in Philadelphia, you have to immerse yourself in all of the free, historical activities throughout the city. Be sure to head to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. And don’t forget to take a stroll through Franklin Square, or over to the city’s famous “Love” statue.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is practically made for party-goers: Think free music, tons of bars and cheap eats. If you’re lucky one weekend, you might even catch free art and wine at St. Claude’s art galleries.

Denver, Colorado

Get ready to take in quite a bit of scenery if you take a trip to Denver. While you’re there, make use of the city’s more than 80 miles of public trails. Or, head over to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. You can also take a free tour of the Wynkoop Brewing Co. — what could be better?
