When it comes to cities like Dallas, there are tons of free and affordable excursions that’ll leave you thankful you didn’t have to clean out your wallet. Play games at Free Play Arcade, take a stroll through White Rock Lake Park, or check out some art at the Dallas Museum. If you’re stumped for ideas for the best free things to do in Dallas TX (or nearly free ways to spend a day), check out this list for a variety of places that offer something different than the norm.

Thanks-Giving Square 1627 Pacific Ave Thanks-Giving Square is a great place to kill some time in between excursions. It’s a public complex dedicated to different cultural practices of Thanksgiving throughout the world. Each year thousands of people flock here to peacefully reflect and check out the beautiful architecture, like the stained glass Glory Window. There’s also a museum on-site to browse through, and everything is completely free.
Free Play Arcade 1730 E Belt Line Rd, Richardson The name may be a little misleading, but the $10 cover at Free Play Arcade is a bargain. Play all the video games your heart desires, like “Space Invaders,” “Pac-Man”, “Frogger,” and more. If you want to shell out some more money, order a chicken pesto sandwich or hummus and beer. By the end of this visit, you’ll feel at least 10 years younger.
Klyde Warren Park 2012 Woodall Rodgers Fwy Klyde Warren Park is definitely the ultimate destination for all things free in Dallas. There are free events and activities, like live music on Friday nights and yoga on weekend mornings. There’s also a dog park and a playground for kids and pets to frolic around, a fitness area, ping pong tables, and even a place to play croquet. If you don’t want to pick up anything from the food trucks, you can bring a picnic and enjoy the sunshine.
Lone Star Park 1000 Lone Star Pkwy, Grand Prairie A mere $5 admission fee gets you into this race course in Dallas. You’ll be in the middle of the action, cheering on the horses and anticipating which one will cross the finish line first. Even if you don’t put money down on a bet, it can still be an adrenaline rush to watch. There are also special promotions for free general admission.
Dallas Museum of Art 1717 N Harwood St The Dallas Museum of Art is free on the first Tuesday of the month. This killer deal allows you to see some spectacular art that includes an American art collection with artists such Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe, Childe Hassam and Gerald Murphy. There’s also contemporary artists such as Rothko and Pollock, ancient Islamic, African, and Asian art and artifacts, and European works by Courbet and Monet.
Lee Harvey’s 1807 Gould St Not only is Lee Harvey’s one of the best burger places in the Dallas area, but there are also some great deals to be had here. Every Tuesday from 3pm to 10pm stop by to get half-priced burgers. Choose from the half-pound burger or the Jalapeno grilled cheese, or sandwiches like the Portobello mushroom or chipotle chicken. There’s also $1 tacos on Mondays, and half-off wings on Wednesdays. Both your stomach and wallet will thank you.
White Rock Lake Park Visitors can spend all afternoon soaking up the picturesque views at White Rock Lake Park. Hike along the trail, ride your bike, or go for a jog and enjoy the scenery. There’s also a fishing dock, and plenty of open space for a picnic or just sitting and watching the day go by. Plus, there’s a dog park so your four-legged friend can enjoy the day with you.
Dallas Farmer’s Market 920 S Harwood St You might be tempted to spend money at Dallas Farmer’s Market, but technically it is a free excursion.There are weekly free events like workouts on Tuesday mornings, live Jazz on Sundays, and a movie series screened on Friday nights.
Good Records 1808 Lower Greenville Ave See a show at Good Records for free as part of the “Live from the Astroturf Series” in an intimate venue that allows you be up-close and personal with the artist you’re seeing. (Past acts have included artists like Alice Cooper.) You might even be able to snag some bargain records while browsing around the store, making this outing a win-win.
Speedzone 11130 Malibu Dr Play some of the single attractions at Speedzone for as little as $8. Ride the Lil Thunder, Slick Trax, or the Thunder Road speed racing tracks for $10 and under per person. You can also play mini golf for $10 per round, and kids under 5 years old play for free. Play the arcade games and win prizes, making this a great place to bring the family.
