Smiling hippies still greet you with apples as you walk in to this 1,250-person venue. This is the original Fillmore, where the Grateful Dead and Santana used to lead audiences to the brinks of sanity and back again. The psychedelic purple chandeliers are still glowing, and the walls are plastered with eye-smashing posters from 40 years of great shows. These days, though, the stage is more likely to sport anyone from The Black Keys to Willie Nelson.
Easily among the liveliest and funkiest dance clubs in the Bay Area, it also happens to be the city’s longest-running establishment of its kind (est. 1973). And for good reason. This huge space in SOMA has different theme nights throughout the month — dancehall, tech-house— and there’s a waterfall garden to relax in between DJ sets. It’s open way late… some DJs only get started at 2AM.
Live music seven nights a week has made Bottom of the Hill into one of the more important venues in San Fran. Bands playing here are indiscriminately groovy and diverse: This place has been offering it up good and live for more than 25 years. It also has outdoor seating, serves food, and holds last call at 3AM. By the way, you can book the venue for your own upcoming party if a private event is in order as well.

There is a lot of room inside of Mezzanine. It’s a two-floor converted warehouse with super-high skylights and funky interiors. It’s open really late, the music is diverse, and there will be lots of dancing. Door prices are usually reasonable ($10-$30), and you are expected to dress to impress, literally: Nix the t-shirt and jeans combo.

This strip club has its own version of happy hour: You can get in free, everyday, from 6PM to 8PM. Centerfolds features gorgeous women performing on multi-level stages before extending an invite to you to join them at one of the club’s VIP rooms (for an extra fee, naturally).
